Introduction to Machine Sewing

For complete Beginners or those who have not used a Sewing Machine in a while and wish to refresh themselves.

Introduction and Course Content

During this 4 hour session:
Students will learn how to thread the machine.
Learn how to use the machine and its functions and complete four different seams:

Plain seam
French seam
Flat-fell seam
Lapped seam

Make a simple item such as a cushion cover or fabric tote bag.

Entry Requirements

The course is for adult learners (+18) with limited or no previous experience. Students could then enrol on the Beginners Clothed Making course.

You will have the use of all equipment in the workroom including: large tables, sewing machines, over-lockers, irons & metal rulers.

Materials

Things needed on the day to bring along:

Fabric scissors
Tape measure
Pins
Stitch unpicker
Tailors chalk or marker
Pencil
Hand sewing needles.
