Pattern cutting and sewing class: Bodice Block

Introduction and Course Content:
Learn pattern making from scratch, you will create a ‘BLOCK PATTERN’ which is a foundation pattern constructed to fit your figure. The block is for making the pattern for a design, which may include style lines, tucks, gathers, pleats or drapes but still have the basic fit of the block you choose to use.
The block you can choose from are:
CLOSE FITTING BODICE BLOCK – Ideal for close fitted tops and dresses
EASY FITTING BODICE BLOCK – Ideal for loose fitted tops and dresses
THE ONE-PIECE SLEEVE BLOCK – ideal for both blocks above
CREATE A TOILE- A toile is the pattern made from the block made into calico toile to check the proportions and shape

Entry Requirements:
This course is for adult learners (18+) with no knowledge or experience in pattern cutting and sewing.

What you will gain from this course:
• Create one of the bodice blocks to your personal measurement
• Created a once-piece sleeve block
• Understand the basic rules and purpose of a block
• Knowledge to develop the patterns for your desired designs from the block
• Knowledge to how to take measurements and what measurements are needed for the blocks
• Knowledge in how to thread and use a sewing and overlocking machine
• Learn a variety of basic stitching to complete your toile
• How to put in an open-end zip into the toile
• How to insert the sleeve into the armhole
• How to do a fitting of the toile and what to look out for
• How to make amendment to the toile and then transfer to the block
