All Sewn Up recruiting for new courses

All Sewn Up is currently recruiting students for two courses:

Social Employability City & Guilds starting 16 April - see All Sewn Up courses menu for further details.

City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Design and Craft 7716-59 Advanced Soft Furnishing Techniques.

Both start in April after Easter and each course offers an excellent opportunity for learners who are living in Lambeth and on income support or low income as they are subsidized by our funders. Contact LMHS for more information.

Thanks to the Walcot Foundation

All Sewn Up, the long-standing sewing training project run by LMHS, is delighted to announce another funding triumph. Just in time for Christmas, the Walcot Foundation has confirmed they will be funding a cohort of students for a full year of training in the second year of a City & Guilds Soft Furnishing course. This means that the current students who complete their first year in Spring 2012, can continue to develop their skills and increase their chance of employment in the industry. One is already on an apprenticeship organised via All Sewn Up course tutors and the rest are learning fast!

Trio of funding triumphs

LMHS is celebrating a trio of funding awards for projects with different local partners in Lambeth. The grants were all awarded via the Capital Community Foundation from the Pedlar’s Acre and Covent Garden Market Authority. CCF’s programme manager Cathy Togher came to meet some of the LMHS team and partners before awarding the grants and was obviously impressed with what she found. The grants were as follows: a Pedlar’s Acre Small Grant to fund a City & Guilds accredited training course in business management for students at All Sewn Up.

Yoga matts needed!

LMHS and Vauxhall Gardens Community Centre are in the process of developing a new programme of excercise classes and need second hand or unwanted equipment. If you have any yoga matts or other equpiment you would like to donate please call Imogen on 020 7793 1110.

Thank you Boden

LMHS and All Sewn Up would like to thank clothing catalogue company Boden, and in particular Chief Executive Julian Granville - himself an LMH alumnus, for their recent generous donation of fabric.

Staff and students of All Sewn Up could barely contain our excitement when a large lorry arrived at the The Co-op Centre, to reveal 500 metres of beautiful high quality wool tweed in a selection of colours and patterns. The wool will be used on our courses to make curtains, cushion covers and clothes!

A big thank you to all at Boden from LMHS.

Variety show entertains the VGCC Senior Citizens Group

The VGCC Senior Citizens group usually meet on Wednesday evenings at the Vauxhall Gardens Community Centre (VGCC) but last week they had something a little bit different in the diary.

Capital Funding for All Sewn Up

All Sewn Up is celebrating two recent successful funding bids; it has received capital funding from the Peter Minet Trust and the Clothworkers' Company. The grants of £2,000 and £5,000 will help pay for essential improvements to the teaching room and equipment upgrades.

"We are absolutely delighted with the grants which will help us to maintain the high standard of teaching which has made All Sewn Up the success it is today, and I would like to thank the Clothworkers and the Peter Minet Trusty for their support," says Pascaline Lambert, the project co-ordinator and course tutor.
